2012 Australian University Games

A strong third place by The University of Melbourne’s Athletics team taking, helped Melbourne in claiming the 2012 University Games Championship ahead of arch rivals Monash and Sydney.
UM team captain Corinna Minko took two golds in the Long Jump (6.20m) and the Triple Jump and was named in the Green and Gold team.  Iain Douglas won bronze in the 400m with a run of 50.76.  Sarah McSweeney took Gold in the 3000m steeplechase (10:48) and backed it up with a silver in the 5000m (17:37).  Teele Palumaa took silver in the High Jump with a leap of 1.70m.  Winged Victory claimed the double in men’s middle distance with Alex Rowe, 1500m (4:00.5) and Darcy Sutton, 800m (1:52.16) both winning gold.  The men’s 4x400m team of Rowe, Sutton, Douglas and Anderson took home the bronze medal in 3:34.69.  MUAC member and Swinburne student Mitch Mackenzie scored multiple personal bests, in Long Jump, Triple Jump, 100m and nightclub stamina.
