White Train wows at wind whipped Flemington
Big V 10 and Little V 3
On a very windy Sunday morning, a 29 runner-strong White Train released some steam, powering around Flemington racecourse to record some more strong individual and team results over the 10km. Impressively, five MUAC teams recorded a top 3 result in their division. In the first AV race at Flemington in 10 years, it was great to see the club continue to maintain its record attendance for the 2011 season.
Rosie Donegan continued to dominate, snatching first place in the U20 women’s 3.2km in a speedy time of 11.13. Congratulations Rosie! Big PBs were recorded all round. Zac Newman and Sophie Barker both smashed their previous PB’s with times of 32.05 and 35.58 respectively, allowing Sophie to achieve a phenomenal 4th place in the women’s field. Julie McNamara also beat her past 10km best by one sweet second, recording 38.37 around the track. These two impressive results combined with Sarah Emons and Kate Scarlett great runs allowed the ladies to take out 2nd place in Women’s Division 1. In Women’s Division 3, Ilka Barr led the ladies home to finish in seventh place, joined by Melissa, Isabell, and Laura.
Adrian McGregor continued his fine form with another top-20 finish. Dave P, Nic B, Grant Morgan, Hamish Beaumont also put in strong efforts to achieve top-50 performances, with the Division 2 Men’s winning performance capping off a very successful day of running. The Division 7 men’s team also took out first place, with team members Dion and Brett both running PBs.
Men’s Division 3 saw the emergence of a friendly rivalry, with Matt, Ben and Dave U working together around the course to finish within seconds of one another. Together with Charlie and Tim Thomas, the boys finished 3rd overall. Solid runs also from the Division 5 men who came in 2nd.
Finally, post-race celebrations of some important birthdays for the two Dave’s saw some impressive baking skills produce delicious matching D1 and D2 cakes. A big thanks must also go out to Kiao, Loren and Maddy for volunteering on the day.
The White Train will be back in action on Saturday, 19th of June for Round Four of Athletics Victoria’s XCR’11 series, the 15km road race at Lake Wendouree.
