White Train wins at wind-whipped Meadowglen

Shield Round 8

The White Train, as MUAC’s team is known, claimed a comprehensive victory in Round 8 of Athletics Victoria’s Shield competition at Meadowglen International Athletics Stadium on Saturday 11th of December.  MUAC’s Men’s Division 1 team extended it’s unbeaten streak to 6 rounds and extended it’s lead at the top of the ladder, whilst the Women’s Division 1 team consolidated it’s second place on the ladder and will work hard to retain the position and qualify for the Shield Final.

Paul Kennedy, the Methuselah of the White Train, added another victory to his almost endless tally in the 3000m walk, clocking 14:07.40.  David Paroissien fought the wind on his own for 12 and a half laps to win the 5000m in 16:29.10.  Cath Macrae (3.40m), Aaron Page and Jack Ingram (tied on 3.70m) won the Pole Vault double, held in the morning at the Rawlinson.  Aaron backed up in the afternoon to win the high jump with a leap of 1.92m.  Jordan Mayston won the 800m in 2:00.05, an impressive run in the windy conditions.  With only one round remaining before the festive break, MUAC athletes will be out in force at Aberfeldie on Saturday 18th of December before devoting the holiday season to training and celebrations.
