The home and away interclub season finished on a high for MUAC with both Division One teams collecting premierships and looking towards the AV Shield Final with ambitions of victory. A season high 40 athletes fronted up at Williamstown to support the sash with the MUAC Division One Women taking their 10th win from 11 starts.  Kira Davey led the way again with another 2000+ point haul on the day, and 500+ point individual performances from Kat Iannello, Cath Macrae and Tamara Mancuso in the pole vault and Elizabeth Ruach’s relay team.  Ruby Turner also collected a big PB in her first steeplechase of the season. A dominant team performance saw the MUAC Women win by more than 3000 points and take some strong momentum into the Shield Final on Sunday 12 February.

The MUAC Division 1 Men fought all the way to Round 12 to win the Zone Premiership, triumph only being confirmed in the final round on Saturday.  Nick Earl’s 9:15 steeplechase was the highest scoring performance of the day and there was pleasing depth across most events with a full walks contingent on track, qualifying for Shield Final, and a strong relay team, now a consistent feature of MUAC’s Shield efforts.

Many thanks to the volunteers who helped out on Thursday at the pole vault: Mark, Kat, Rachel, Warren, Adam, Dale, Jem, Aaron, Liz and Ian.

MUAC will be gathering at the Clyde Hotel on Tuesday, 24 January at 7:30pm to celebrate all the efforts that got MUAC to the Shield Final.

MUAC athletes will be in action this weekend at the 2017 Victorian Country Championships and looking ahead to the 2017 AV Shield Final on Sunday February 12 at Lakeside.
