Medals were up for grabs for the first time in the 2015 open track and field season as 11 MUAC athletes took to Lakeside Stadium on Thursday, 19th November. Striving and surging through the still, spring night, our athletes flew to personal bests and impressive performances. Sarah McSweeney, coming to the end of a long PhD thesis based training regime, ran a smart race to cross 6th in the Womens’ Championship Race in 16:59.49. Nick Earl and Martin Mashford wore the sash in the Mens’ Championship Race, with Earl finishing just off the podium in 14:18.07, just four seconds outside the MUAC Open Club Record, collecting another personal best. Martin Mashford, fresh from a hamstring twinge, ran a smart, steady race to come through unscathed in 14:51. Boom orienteering recruit ran strongly, leading most of the B race to cross in 14:51, with Sam Blake taking up a lot of the early running as well. Frankie Conway and Charlie Park battled it out for the last spot on the podium in the C race, with Conway getting the honours, 15:15 to 15:16, with Max Ueda not far back in 15:34. Peter Bray clock an impressive 16:19 for 6th in the D race, whilst Alex Bull and Julia Atkins staged a strong battle in the F race, finishing with 20:13 and 20:28.

MUAC athletes will be back in action this Sunday at Werribee Athletics Centre for Round 5 of AV Shield.
