Track season finishes at AV Shield Final for MUAC

Melbourne University Athletics Club’s Division 1 Teams performed well at the AV Shield Final on Saturday, 11 of April at Lakeside Stadium with the Women’s team taking 5th place and the Men 6th in the pinnacle of club athletics in Victoria.

The competition rewards depth and consistency over the 12 rounds of the AV Shield season, and the MUAC teams, ably led by Kath Iannello and Cath Macrae, MUAC’s Summer Managers.

The best performances on the day came from Sarah McSweeney, 3rd in the 5000m in 17:47, Jacquie Sharples making a return to the 400m hurdles with 4th  in 66.83.  Chris Arnold took 2nd in the triple jump with 12.99m, whilst Kaitlin Morgan(11.17m) and Hannah Alderton(10.94m) took 3rd and 4th  in the same event. Aaron Page, Seamus Hayes and Chris Arnold took 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the High Jump, all clearing 1.85m, with Morgan and Alderton taking 1st and 2nd in the same event, with performances of 1.65m. Hayes continued his scoring spree, taking 3rd in the shot put with 11.39m.

Whilst some MUAC track and field athletes will take a brief break, MUAC’s distance runners will toe the line for Round 1 of XCR14 on May, 3rd.
