Top teams on track for Shield Final
Shield Final
Melbourne University Athletics Club will send two strong teams to the Athletics Victoria Shield Final at Lakeside Stadium, on Saturday, 11th of February. MUAC will compete in Division 1 for Men and Women, one of only four clubs to have teams in both premier divisions. The Shield Final is the pinnacle of club track and field competition in Victoria with more than 45 clubs and 500 athletes converging on the State Athletics Centre at Albert Park.
13 women and 22 men from MUAC will compete across 10 events led by multi event specialists Carmen Deane and Aaron Page, who have qualified for the Australian Championships in the Heptathlon and Decathlon respectively, and will take on four events each. Field events guru John Peavey will also compete in four events; High Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put and Hammer Throw. MUAC Summer Manager Mitch Mackenzie was confident that the teams would perform well on Saturday ‘Our teams are looking great and athletes are hitting top form as the championship season approaches.’
