Jared Tallent, dual Olympic medallist, took the gold medal in a time quicker than his silver medal performance at the Beijing Olympic Games.  Tom finished in 4:12:05, just outside his personal best racing in testing conditions, with rain sweeping across the course throughout the morning and pools of water forming on the path.  He described the race afterwards as ‘the toughest he’d ever done’.  Tough conditions for Tom BarnesBarnes’ silver comes not long after he represented Australia at the World University Games in Belgrade.  The national selections  for the Road Walking World Cup and the Commonwealth Games are approaching with Tom clearly in contention for a berth to both these prestigious events.

MUAC athletes out for their Sunday morning training run jogged through Fawkner Park to offer encouragement and marveled at the determination and fortitude required to race in such conditions.

Congratulations Tom.
