Third place for MUAC’s Division 1 Men
Burnley Half Marathon
A cool crisp morning greeted 21 MUAC athletes as Round 9 of XCR13 took the White Train to Burnley for the Half Marathon. Zac Newman, in heavy training for his marathon debut at the Melbourne Marathon, showed great form to take 11th place in 1:10:17 and will be one to watch in October over the 42km distance. Fellow marathon runner Dave Paroissien wasn’t far behind, along with MUAC debutant Nick Earl both in the top 25. Hamish Beaumont had a welcome return to form and Dion Houtmann ran a significant personal best to finish just outside 80 minutes in 1:20:12. The Men’s Division 1 team finished in third position, it’s highest place of the year.
There were good runs all down the divisions as MUAC fielded strong teams all the way down the divisions. Julie McNamara was the first of the MUAC women, taking 16th place in a comfortable 1:29.36 as she looks towards the Tokyo Marathon.
The XCR13 will come to a climax in two weeks time on Saturday 21st September as over 1000 AV athletes converge on the Tan Track for the Tan Relays. MUAC looks forward to visiting teams from our fierce rivals SUAC along with Randwick Botany Harriers, and the traditional end of season festivities at the Rawlinson Track.
