MUAC’s Nick Earl broke the 30 minute barrier for 10000m, as two Australians confirmed their place on the team for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. The Australian 10,000m Championships, which doubled as the Olympic Trials, was the first big athletics meet of the 2015/16 summer. Earl, in a stacked field of 19, settled in early on in with two pacemakers driving the race at the front, working towards the Olympic Qualifying standard of 28:00. Two packs formed and  Earl needed a big surge over the last lap to cross the line in 29:58.29 in 13th place. David McNeill, of OXAC, won the race in 28:03.

MUAC also had a big contingent competing in the Steve Hooker Pole Vault Challenge with fine jumping from Leon D’Donofrio, 4.41m, Jem Gibbs, 3.21m and Cath Macrae, 3.36m.
