Silver for 4x400m women in final straight showdown

2017 Zatopek:10

MUAC’s 4x400m Women were a central protagonist in a thrilling race at Thursday night’s Zatopek:10, making the race across all four legs.  Sarah Billings led off setting up the team for a strong middle section by Elizabeth Ruach and Katrina Anderson.  Catriona Bissett got the baton in second, just behind Sandringham’s Liv Russo, and ran a very savvy leg, taking the lead on the final bend in a pack of four, and just getting overrun in the last 40 metres. It was an impressive run by the quartet to take silver.

The MUAC 4x400m of Harry Kimpton-Moss, Matt Scott, Jack Hughes and Jarrod Pageot ran a strong race to take 7th place.  This was the first year that MUAC has had teams in both 4x400m finals at Zatopek, one of the club’s big goals.  We’ll be back next year aiming for medals in both events.

MUAC had four vaulters in the Steve Hooker Pole Vault Challenge, with Nick Masini’s 4.00m clearance a highlight in his rapid return to form.

Ciara Boyd-Squires Long ran well for 11th in the Ondieki 3000m, the Australian U20 3000m Championship, a race she’ll be racing again in 2018.

Ellen Schaef clocked 4:28.35 for 12th in a stacked Women’s 1500m featuring 7 athletes with international experience.

The ever reliable Nick Earl stormed home in the Zatopek 10000m for 11th place, with a sub 2:50 final kilometre for 29:45.80, just outside his own club record.
