Record breaking start to 2017 for Billings
Vic Milers Club Meet 3
Sarah Billings has kicked off 2017 in record breaking style, running 2:04:67 and taking more than a second off an MUAC Open 800m Record that was 7 years older than she is. Billings ran strongly in a stacked Vic Milers Club race won by 2016 Olympian Anneliese Rubie, kicking emphatically over the last 150m to overtake Abbey De La Motte and claim second place.
Stacked fields and good conditions saw MUAC athletes run well across many races at VMC3. David Park and Jack Hughes renewed their 800m rivalry, with both collecting sub 2 minute PBs, and Hughes the bragging rights (1:59.14) over Park (1:59.93). Julian Baker continues to perform at a high level, clocking 1:56.7 in the B 800m. Pippa Trevella returned from a summer training retreat in NZ in top form running 2:25.28. Michael Dardis took advantage of the ‘home’ track to run 2:08.05.
The 1500m races saw fine performances too with both Ellen Schaef (4:24.55) and Stella Radford (4:25.98) closing in on the Open MUAC 1500m record. Frankie Conway, Clayton’s fastest teacher, ran an impressive PB of 3:57.76 and looks to be rounding into top form as the championship season approaches. Ballarat based Jordan Mayston made the trip to Box Hill and continued his strong track season with a 4:06.9.
