No sleep ’til Williamstown for Pusch

Shield Round 3

Bursting into the competition like an epic drum solo, metal guru and loud tights aficionado Corwin ‘Sos’ Pusch has set Williamstown alight with his 2012 AV Shield debut in Round 3.  The brightly coloured tights set aside for the sedate and storied uniform of MUAC, Pusch claimed victory in the 100m, clocking 11.28s and backed up with 2nd in Division 1 for the 400m (50.18).  The racing was to Pusch’s liking, save the last 150m of the 400m.
The White Train teams claimed 2nd place in Women’s and Men’s Division 1 with a strong showing across many events.  Both 4x100m relay teams rolled the one lap to take 2nd place and Paul Kennedy, cheered on by the increasingly speedy William and Tom Kennedy, took first in the Division 1 2000m walk (10:17).  Summer Manager Mitch Mackenzie claimed the win in the High Jump (1.85m), with team mate Jarrod Pageot 2nd, and 2nd in the Long Jump (5.77m).  MUAC’s pole vaulters recorded a clean sweep with the top three places in the women, Cath Macrae (1st, 3.20m), Kath Iannello (2nd) and Dawn Hartigan (3rd) and the men, Leon D’Onofrio (1st, 3.65m), Stuart Jones (2nd) and Mark Burgman (3rd).  Kath Iannello continued her streak from Round 2, clocking up 6 events for the round including 2nd in the Javelin, behind Dawn Hartigan, and 1st in the Discus (24.47m), and 2nd in the High Jump.  Cath Macrae also took 2nd in the Long Jump.
MUAC’s athletes will be back on track at Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park for Round 4 of AV Shield on Saturday, 3rd of November.

Mark Kirwan barely escaped club sanction after no scoring performances in nine attempts, failing three times at High Jump, Discus and Javelin. Only a 4.44m Long Jump saved him from humiliation and a visit to the Committee to explain his poor performance.
