MUAC’s lucky 13 teams run rampant at the Tan

Round 10 XCR’15:Tan Relays

The White Train closed out the XCR’15 season on a high, with MUAC clinching promotion for the Division 3 and 5 Women’s teams and the Premier Division teams securing 3rd and 4th on premiership ladders.

In the closest race of the day, the Division 3 Women, Aislinn Prendergast, Allyson O’Brien, Alex Bull and Julie McNamara, ran a superb race to take 5th place. This was enough overcame a five point deficit coming into the Tan Relays to move from fourth to second position on the ladder, and secure promotion to Division 2 by one point. MUAC will be one of only two clubs with Premier and Division 2 Men’s and Women’s teams in 2016. MUAC’s Division 5 women also secure promotion, comfortably claiming second on the ladder. Cassie Cohen, Marie Parsons and Julia Atkins took the team to their fourth win of the season, making the Division 5 team the winning-est MUAC team of the winter.

Lisa Weightman marked her return to race in emphatic fashion, clocking the fastest time of the day, 12:27, as lead off for the Premier Women’s team. Weightman is focused on the Houston Marathon in January as a step on the road to the 2016 Olympic Games. The team, with Sarah McSweeney, Annie Carter, Ellen Schaef and Martine Botha ran well to finish just outside the medals in fourth and lock in fourth place for the season.

Martin Mashford started off the MUAC Premier Men’s team and recorded MUAC’s fastest time of the day (11:25). The team (with Nick Earl, Zac Newman, Charlie Park and Ian Lawford) took out sixth place and will finish the season in third.

MUAC’s passel of men’s teams ran well through all the divisions: Division 2: 4th, Division 3: 3rd, Division 5: 3rd, Division 7:, 5th, 7th, 12th and 29th. MUAC’s remaining Division 5 Women’s teams finished in 13th and 14th. In head to head battles, Tony Brain and Tim Thomas beat Paul Shortis, and recorded identical times. There was some dispute over who should be awarded the victory on the day.

Welcome to Frankie Conway, Amirhossein Jafarian, Felix Steckler, Meg Williams, Kei Hui Lay and Deborah Goh who made their competitive debuts for MUAC. We look forward to seeing you at many more races.

It was another record breaking season with 360 performances across the 10 rounds and record numbers at 7 of the events. Stay tuned for a full wrap of the season and the date for the end of season awards and celebration.

Many thanks to Antony Woodward’s son and Max’s sister who filled our volunteer spots.

MUAC will be back competing in three weeks with Round 1 of AV Shield on Saturday, October the 10th, the start of the track season. Before then we’ll be getting together for our 125th Anniversary Dinner at Ormond College on Sat, September 26th.
