MUAC sweep Shield again on stellar Sunday

AV Shield Round 6

The debut of Zone v Zone competition as part of AV Shield saw a strong cohort of 39 MUAC athletes at Aberfeldie on Sunday, 23rd of November. The influx of athletes saw strong and deep competition across many events, with nearly 60 200m races, 21 800m races and 16 rounds of shot put. The home ground advantage saw the Yellow Zone, of which MUAC is a part, take the victory over the visiting Red Zone by around 250 points.  Round 6 marked the start of the second half of AV Shield and MUAC continues to top the tables in both Mens and Womens Division 1. MUAC’s women had a very strong team on Sunday scoring 363.5 points to win by more than 130.  The team filled a season high six events (Hammer, triple jump, shot put, high jump, 200m and 3000m) and won the relay. Only five scoring spots were left unfilled. Individual wins went to Ellen Schaef in the 800m and 3000m, Kath Iannello in the hammer (as one of her five events for the day), Genevieve Lawrence in the high ump and Gwen Thornton in the 400m hurdles (in a national qualifying time).

The MUAC men took an equally emphatic victory, winning the Shield Round by more than 200 points, scoring 726 points. Just behind the women, the men filled five events (200m, 800m, 3000m, high jump, shot put) and took second in the relay. Pleasingly only 8 scoring positions were left unfilled. Romain Donneux, on debut for the club, won the 800m, whilst Nick Earl took the 3000m and Simon Greig took out the 200m in his first run for the season. Seamus Hayes won the shot put over a slew of MUAC rivals.

A hearty thanks to all our volunteers who helped out at the high jump all day.

MUAC will be back in action next weekend for the Athletics Victoria Track Relay Championships at Lakeside Stadium. AV Shield competition returns on Saturday 6th December.
