MUAC prevails in battle of Bundoora berg
Bundoora Cross Country
The re-formatted and muddy Bundoora course proved to be a challenge for everyone who took part in round 6 of the XCR’11 season. The three repetitions of the seemingly never-ending hills meant many members of the White Train pulled up sore on Sunday morning and will continue to have nightmares for weeks to come!
However, despite the challenging course, all 27 Melbourne Uni athletes put in great efforts yet again, with a number of top 20 performances being recorded. Sophie Barker took out 3rd place in Open Women with another amazing run (time) and Rosie Donegan proved her strength with a 2nd placing in the U20 Women. In the Open Men, Adrian McGregor took out 12th place, highlighting his great form this season. Congratulations must be also extended to Sophie B and Rosie, who have been selected to represent Victoria at the Australian Cross Country Championships on August 20 in Canberra.
The White Train again did well in all divisions. The Women’s Division 1 took 4th place and Al, Laura, Sarah C and Pip’s great team effort meant Division 2 gained 5th, their best for the season. Men’s Division 1 were able to keep their undefeated record, with Adrian’s performance being backed up with great runs again from Zac, Dave, Nic, Hammerhead and Andy. The Men’s Division 3 achieved 6th place, while Men’s Division 5 all put in epic efforts to grab their first win for the season.
Being ‘silly t-shirt’ round proved lots of fun and allowed many of the White Train athletes to let their creative sides show. Coach Tony Brain dispelled the ‘boring’ stereotype auditors have come to claim, with the cow t-shirts he and Dave U donned proving to be the winning garments of the day. Luckily for all, cameraman of the day, Morten, was able to capture all the stunning outfits brought out for the occasion. Thanks must also go to volunteers Charlie ‘Tex’, Kevin and Chris X for helping out on the day – remember, it all goes towards the coveted Golden Shoe!
The next round on Sat 6th August will be held at Sandown Racecourse…
