A massive three days of athletics saw fine performances by many MUAC athletes with three championships won across the track and field. Joel Baden continued his steady progress towards the 2.29m Olympic qualifier, wining the State Championship with 2.21m in cool and swirly conditions.  Gwen Thornton took her first Open Championship, winning the 400m hurdles in a personal best 61.63.  Nick Earl overcame his rudimentary hurdling technique to win the 3000m steeplechase in 9:15.10. Joel Mason made it an MUAC/Joel quinella in the high jump, winning silver.  Recovering from a sign in snafu, Sam Blake took bronze in the 1500m, running 3:55.07. Ellen Schaef continued her recent good form, taking 4th in the 800m in 2:10.02. Big contingents of MUAC athletes and supporters enjoyed the action over all three days from the MUAC HQ on the hill. MUAC took fifth place in the HH Hunter Shield with 83 points, just two behind Frankston, with rivals Athletics Essendon comfortably defending their title with 175 points.

A big thanks to Shohei, Junkers, David, Tim, Kath and Warren for fulfilling MUAC’s volunteer duties across the three days of the competition and to Tim, Phil, Tony, Max, Junkers, David, Ellen, Ian, Sam and Nick for helping out with the set up and pack down of MUAC HQ.
