A Thursday night under lights at Aberfeldie kicked off the second half of the AV Shield season in style with MUAC well in control on top of the Division 1 ladders. With a season high cohort of athletes, MUAC’s teams look headed for the AV Shield Final in February.  The MUAC Women took the narrowest of possible wins, claiming victory over Essendon, 420 points to 419.5 points, with every performance and effort necessary to claim the win*. Kath Iannello, collected points with abandon, winning the Division 1 Hammer amongst the multitude of events she took on. Carmen Deane won the Division 1 High Jump and collected points and finals eligibility in the Hammer, shot put and 400m hurdles as well.  Victoria Huang and Freya Berenyi made their debuts for MUAC running well in the 800m and 5000m respectively. Allyson O’Brien made a welcome return to the MUAC singlet. It was a strong night of participation across the board for the MUAC women with only spots in the walk and late night 5000m left vacant.

The MUAC Division 1 Men came up against a rampant Essendon on their home track, finishing the night with 924 points, giving them a respectable second place. The Men took the top four places in the High Jump, lead by Joel Baden’s 2.17m.  Ahmed Badawy stepped up to the long sprint to win in 23.42 whilst the first 800m heat, packed with MUAC talent, was lead home by Dan Pratt in a PB time of 1:56.6. In early action, MUAC life member and marathon legend, Theo Tsichrintzis returned to MUAC competition taking on the 3000m walk as the first step on the way to the AV Shield Final. Once again a broad team effort saw almost all scoring positions filled by the 30 MUAC Men in action.

A big thanks to all the MUAC volunteers who helped out at the High Jump all night.

MUAC will be back in action on Sunday 13th of December at AV Knockout Round 1 at Lakeside Stadium, followed by AV Shield Round 7 at Werribee on Saturday 19th December.

*Final results have MUAC with a slightly more comfortable 11.5 point win, still close enough that every performance was necessary to get victory.
