MUAC heats up in Geelong
2015 Steigen Spectacular
It was a hot and steamy end to the 2015 athletic year for MUAC on Saturday night at John Landy Field in Geelong. There was a strong representation in the pole vault and distance events at the 2015 Steigen Spectacular. Temperatures over 40 during the day had put paid to the scheduled afternoon AV Shield competition, and it was still in the 30s as competition started in Geelong. Cath Macrae continued a strong comeback from injury, winning the Pole Vault. Martin Mashford kicked of his season in style in a stacked men’s mile. The Australian 1500m record holder Ryan Gregson took the win in 3:56 with World Junior representative Zac Patterson also dipping under 4 minutes. Mashford came home strongly for 6th in 4:07.29. Ellen Schaef took 6th in the 1500m in 4:36.69. MUAC had six athletes in the 10000m feature event with 5 racing and Zac Newman pacing. Nick Earl backed up his sub 30 min at Zatopek with a strong 2nd in 30:18. Ralph Street, 5th, 31:07, Charlie Park, 11th, 32:20, Frankie Conway, 13th, 32:31 and Max Ueda, 20th, 33:32 all battled the heat well over 25 gruelling laps.
MUAC will be return to action in 2016, with AV Shield Round 8 on Saturday, January 9 at Nunawading and Rare Air 3 on January 2 at Box Hill.
