MUAC heads north for Nationals

93rd Australian Athletics Championships

The finale of the domestic track and field season saw nearly 20 MUAC athletes qualified for Nationals and a number of them travelling to Brisbane to vie for Australian titles. Amanda Paulin and Ellen Schaef ran the 1500m with Schaef recording 4:35.89 and Paulin running 4:28.16 to make the final. Paulin clocked 4:25? in the final to come 11th. Kath Iannello had a good series in the Pole Vault to clear 3.30m and take 9th place. Joel Mason, possibly the tallest man at MUAC, came close to clearing his own height, jumping 1.95m for 7th place. Ashwin Singh, with close to the biggest workload of the championships, running the 100m (13.37), 200m (27.23) and 400m (61.03). Aaron Page took on the ten events of the decathlon, taking 9th place with 6227 points. Martin Mashford produced one of the kicks of the championships coming from 8th place at the bell to run 3:46.38 and make the final of the 1500m. In a stacked field Mashford ran 3.56.8, limping home with an achilles strain after being in the pack with 500m to go. Nick Earl took 9th in the 3000m Steeplechase running 9:27.52 to top off a strong season.

With the track and field season at an end, it is only a few weeks until MUAC will be back in action for Round 1 of XCR’15 at Jells Park.
