Medals a’plenty at Vic Champs Weekend 1
2107 Victorian Track and Field Championships
A massive fortnight of track and field kicked off at Lakeside Stadium with the first weekend of the 2017 Victorian Track and Field Championships. Spread over two weekends in a new format that sees Open athletes and Junior athletes in the same program, MUAC members came to the fore. Recently minted MUAC 800m record holder Sarah Billings stepped down to the 400m taking the bronze medal in a well considered run, just in front of club mate Emily Lawson. Jarrod Pageot continued his preparation for the Australian Decathlon Championship with a bronze in the 110m hurdles. Nick Earl continued his record breaking ways, shaving a second off Mark Kirwan’s club record in the steeplechase to win bronze in a hot race. Cath Macrae’s record of performing well in championships shows no sign of failing with another bronze at in the pole vault. Ashwin Singh collected silver and bronze in the ambulant 100m and 400m. With one weekend remaining MUAC sits in second place in the HH Hunter Shield
The MUAC tifosi were out in force on the steeplechase hill and will be back to cheer on MUAC athletes for week two on the high jump hill, under the main grandstand.
A big thanks to Tim Thomas for his volunteering effort on Sunday.
