Medals a plenty for MUAC at Vic Champs
2013 Victorian Open and AWD Track and Field Championships
Melbourne University Athletics Club took 5th place in the HH Hunter Shield as MUAC members took home medals at the 2013 Victorian Open and AWD Track and Field Championships. The wind swept across Lakeside Stadium but the sun was out for all three days and more than 20 MUAC athletes competed. Sarah McSweeney claimed the Victorian title in the 3000m Steeplechase and broke the MUAC record in the process running 10:25.43. Mark Kirwan won the bronze in the men’s 3000m Steeplechase in 9:15.82, after a close race with Chris Discombe and Craig Appleby. Cath Macrae, reliable big event performer, took home the bronze in the Women’s Pole Vault, clearing 3.70m. Simon Greig ran 11.14 to take 3rd in the blue riband 100m behind Olympians Josh Ross and Bola Lawal. Jo Bromfield claimed sliver in the Women’s Triple Jump with a hop, step and jump of 12.49m. Emma Zalcman had a fine return to form with a bronze and a personal best in the 400m.
