Rio 2016 Olympic Games

weightman olympic thumbnailIn her first marathon since giving birth to her son Pete in 2015, Lisa Weightman won silver in the 2016 Houston Marathon in January in a time of 2:27.53, with this run securing her spot on the Rio team. Her husband and personal trainer, Lachlan McArthur, paced her for the majority of the race and finished 34th in the men’s event.

Weightman made her Olympic debut at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, finishing 33rd in a time of 2:34:16. In 2010 she excelled in difficult conditions at the Delhi Commonwealth Games to win the bronze.

2009 was a great year for Weightman. She was 17th at the World Cross Country Championships in March and then five months later was 17th at the Berlin World Championships (2:30.42).

She improved her Olympic performance at the 2012 Games in London, finishing 17th overall in a time of 2:27.32, and the following year lowered her personal best to 2:26:05 at the Melbourne Marathon to sit in 5th on the all time Australian rankings list.

Living in Melbourne, she is a highly regarded business consultant and people manager at IBM. Mum of toddler Peter Richard McArthur, named after both his Grandpas and Coach Richard Telford. Dad Peter Weightman, ex-Fitzroy footballer and currently works for Collingwood VFL.
