Hills tames hills and takes state title

XCR’18 Round 4: Bundoora Cross Country

Cool and windy conditions were just what the doctor ordered for the massive MUAC team on Saturday with Madeline Hills claiming her first Victorian Championship and leading the Premier Women to 3rd place.  The medico stacked team (2 doctors, a nurse practitioner, a pharmacist and a researcher in equine injuries) pushed the team to a clear 5th on the premiership ladder.  Hills was imperious at the front of the race, fracturing the race open and opening a sizeable gap on the in form Sinead Diver during the middle section of the race and floating home in a blistering 33:33 for 10km.  Behind her, reigning Victorian Mile Champion Katrina Anderson, Amy McCormick, Lisa Dick and Sarah Lucas did the rounds of Bundoora in fine style to get the team a valuable dose of points.  The Division 3 Women ran well for 5th place and continue to sit in third place just outside the promotion zone.

Ciara Boyd-Squires Long again lead the U20 team with aplomb with 5th place in the deepest race of the season so far, with Emma Hogan and Anna Louey joining her to take another second place and consolidate top position on the premiership ladder.

MUAC’s Premier Men, as the first six amongst more than thirty MUAC men racing, packed well  to claim 5th on the day and remain just a couple of points adrift of the top 3 on the premiership ladder. Debutants Caleb Muller and Nick Montgomery lead home the Division Two Men to a season high 2nd place. MUAC teams scored well in Division 3 (7th), Division 6 (4th) and Division 7 (4th). The Division 5 team of Nick Parkinson, Daniel Brundel, Luca Trimboli, Matt Taylor, aiming for promotion to Division 4, took their first team victory of the season. The win has pushed them into second place and the promotion zone and they now sit just two points off the lead.

A hearty thanks to Yash and Pippa who fulfilled our club duties during the very chilly morning session!
