Gold (and bronze) rush for White Train in Bendigo

Coliban Ekiden Relays

Leaving behind the frosty winter weather of the past few races, 6 MUAC teams lined up for the Ekiden Relay at Coliban last Saturday. With the sun shining, it seemed a gold (and bronze) rush was inevitable for the White Train.

Women’s Division 1 again placed a fantastic 3rd. A phenomenal run from Rosie, who finished 2nd fastest for her leg only trailing Anna Thompson, a 4-time Australian cross-country champion, placed the team in a great position. Combined with strong runs from Julie, Ilka and Kate, MUAC stood in 4th place at the last change. It was then Sarah Emons’ turn to charge through, running the team into medal place! A brilliant effort all round.

The MUAC men were no less successful, with both Division 2 and Division 5 taking out first position in the beautiful weather. With only two races left to complete the clean sweep, and only one until the Hamster is forced to don the white lycra suit, the Div 2 team looked strong, taking Divsion 2 by more than 10 minutes. Max ‘Jiggity’ Williams ran the last leg to maintain his 100% winning record in the top team. The Division 5 team of Kerrin Rattray, Tim Thomas, Hunter Dean, Tom Gorman and Alex Kaiser took the team to their second victory of the season and consolidated their already considerable lead at the top of the premiership ladder.

Sir Richard Dutton’s efforts back from injury were impressive…

Impressive organisation by Winter Manager Kate Scarlett had the teams running with only a hint of chaos as race wended it’s way from Harcourt to Bendigo.
