Fine finish to ‘fourteen for MUAC
AV Shield Round 8
MUAC took to the track and field for the final time as a team in 2014 on Thursday, 18th of December at Aberfeldie in Round 8 of AV Shield. MUAC’s Womens and Mens Division 1 teams sat atop the ladder with 3 rounds remaining and looked to carry strong form through to the AV Shield Final in January 2015. A stormy Thursday evening saw the Womens Division 1 ladder tighten with MUAC finishing third on 197 points. With a lead of only 5 points MUAC will look to finish first in Round 9 on 10th January, to secure the Zone Premiership over rivals Athletic Essendon and Keilor St Bernards. Carme Deane lead the MUAC women with aplomb winning the 400m hurdles (73.61s) and the shot put (8.97m). Cross country and road specialist Sophie Barker stepped down to the 800m and took the Division 1 victory in 2:16.5.
The MUAC men had no trouble recording another Division 1 victory lead by Seamus Hayes who took the 200m (22.12) – shot put (12.72m) double. Mark Kirwan (15:05) lead home the MUAC men to the top six places in the 5000m for a dominant performance by the distance lads including a good run by Charlie Park on debut. The medley relay boys took another victory as well to extend our lead beyond 10 points on the premiership ladder.
MUAC will return to action for Round 9 of AV Shield, which incorporates the second Zone v Zone competition, at Nunawading on Saturday, 10th of January.
