Nick Earl has shaved 15 seconds off Dan Quin’s 15 year old MUAC 10000m record at the Steigen Spectacular at John Landy Field in Geelong on Saturday night.  Earl sat with the lead pack for 8km as Mitch Brown and Australian Cross Country Champion Jordan Gusman rotated the lead.  The group of 5, with Jordan Nelson and Andy Buchanan, who races for MUAC in the winter season, were on 29:10 pace at every split until the racing proper kicked off with 5 laps to go. Earl recovered from a couple of tough laps to come home strong and cross fifth in 29:34.11. Gusman won the race, having won the mile just 45 minutes before in 4:00. The conditions were clearly conducive to fast times as x of the competitors recorded personal bests including MUAC’s Frankie Conway in 7th (30:31.79).  Victorian Marathon Champion Zac Newman showed some solid form not long after the Melbourne Marathon clocking 31:50.95 and Max Ueda tested out his office based training regime running 33:55.53.

In other competition Ellen Schaef came third in a high quality, blustery 1500m chasing two time Olympian Zoe Buckman and World Junior representative Georgia Griffith home to close in 4:30.96. Kath Iannello and Cath Macrae claimed podium spots in the pole vault, with Iannello’s 3.55m getting her into second on the night.

MUAC’s multi event athletes were in action at the Bendigo Multis on Saturday and Sunday. At the half way point Christian Paynter was leading the decathlon and Hannah Alderton was leading the helptathlon.  Updates will be forthcoming when the final results are available.
