Dominant start for MUAC at AV Shield

AV Shield Round 1

The track and field season is under way and MUAC has come out of the blocks well, winning both Womens and Mens Division 1 at Round 1 of AV Shield’s Yellow Zone. 25 MUAC athletes took to the track at Victoria University Werribee campus on Saturday 11, October at the start of the summer 15316269450_884042718f_bcampaign. The Division 1 Women’s team won with 354 points, close to double the score of 2nd place, with the Division 1 Men similarly dominant, taking the victory with 613 points, more than 200 ahead of 2nd. The MUAC Women showed the way, fielding sufficient athletes to fill all our scoring positions in five events (Javelin, Pole Vault, Long Jump, 400m and 1500m) and comfortably winning the relay for big points. The men weren’t far behind filling three events (Javelin, Pole Vault and the 1500m) and winining the relay. With an influx of MUAC sprinters expected, MUAC hopes to be fielding full teams through most events every AV Shield round. Fine individual performances abounded at Werribee with Ellen Schaef and Sophie Barker going 1, 2 in the 1500m, and Schaef backing up to win Division 1 in the 400m. Cath Macrae and Kath Iannello shared honours in the Pole Vault, both clearing 3.10m whilst squad mate Aaron Page took out the mens vault with 3.85m. Ben Cook, competing despite a sore foot won the Div 1 discus with 33.24m, with Iannnello adding a discus win to her PV victory. Gen Lawrence won the Div 1 Long Jump with a leap of 4.73m and Max Ueda took out the steeplechase in 10:46.6.  MUAC is back in action at Aberfeldie this Sunday for Round 2 of AV Shield.
