Buchanan and Mashford a good bet at Moonee Valley
2015 Australian Cross Country Championships
Top runs by Andy Buchanan, 7th, and Martin Mashford, 12th in the Open Men’s 12km race were the MUAC highlights in a big day of cross country at Moonee Valley Racecourse. The technical course, with intricate 2km and 3km loops through the racecourse infield, tested athletes along with the cool conditions and intermittent rain. The Open Men’s race was broken open early by Commonwealth Games marathoner Liam Adams, who went on to take a convincing victory. Buchanan and Mashford ran superbly to take top 15 places in a race filled with many of Australia’s best runners. Max Ueda, MUAC’s Winter Manager ran well to take 50th place and fill the third spot in MUAC’s Club Championship team. Provisional results have MUAC in third place in the Open Men’s Club Championship. Tony Brain, MUAC Coach and Hamish Beaumont, MUAC President rounded out the contingent in the Open Men.
MUAC had two Victorian representatives in the U20 Women’s race, the final race of the day. Rain and cool conditions didn’t deter Georgia Griffith, who ran a great 6km to take 11th place with Elly Jackson not far behind in 29th.
