AV Shield heats up at Doncaster

AV Shield Round 8

MUAC’s Division One Women will start looking towards the AV Shield Final after a comprehensive victory at Doncaster on Saturday for Round 8 of AV Shield.  A strong team effort lead by a reliable haul of points from Kira Davey and some fine sprinting took the team to a nearly 2000 point win and a 16 point lead atop the Zone ladder. Elizabeth Ruach’s relay teams were in good form again this week with some strong running from both the Women and Men and good dedication to the team shown by everyone involved.

A big thanks to Warren, Mark, Kira, Tim, Kath, Vin, Miriam and Hamish for fulfilling MUAC’s duties throughout the day at Doncaster, and Mark and Alex for organising.

The MUAC Division One Men tumbled to their second consecutive defeat, and have seen their lead atop the premiership ladder slip to just six points with four rounds to go. There was some fine vaulting from Prof Mark Burgman, who was also one of the club’s dedicated volunteers. There was also considerable dedication to the cause shown by some of the 400m runners, backing up after a 1500m and 3000m earlier in the day. The lowly finish for the team has been attributed in some circles to a pre competition large lunch of creamy risotto topped off with a hot chocolate.  At time of press team management declined to comment on this idle speculation. The MUAC Men will be out in force on Thursday night at Aberfeldie fighting to get back on top.

MUAC will be back in action on Thursday at Round 9 of AV Shield at Aberfeldie. Pre entries for this round will close on Monday night.
