Katrina Anderson won Melbourne University Athletics Club’s first Victorian Women’s Mile Championships with a strong final lap at Meet 4 of the Victorian Milers Club’s 2017/18 season. Anderson settled well in the early stages of the race, and was poised to strike at the bell. She overcame some traffic on the back straight to surge into the lead around the Trinity bend and wasn’t headed, finishing in 4:45.7.  Rosie Donegan, fresh off the plane from Boston took 6th, with Lucy Buckley 13th and Sarah McSweeney 15th.

It was a record breaking night of racing with more than 400 athletes racing, a large contingent of vaulters in the Newman D, and a crowd of over 1000 watching the action. Olympian Luke Matthews claimed the Men’s Victorian Mile Championship with a 54.5s final lap to win in 4:00.8 from fellow Olympian Sam McEntee and Jack Rayner.

Three MUAC athletes featured in the A Women’s 800m with Catriona Bisset 3rd, Sarah Billings 5th and Georgia Hansen 6th.

With nearly 30 MUAC racing and more than 10 vaulting it was a massive night for personal bests and seasons’ bests from the first race at 6:30pm to the final race at 9:59pm.

A massive thanks to the Victorian Milers Club and Rare Air Club for staging the event, all the officials and especially the 15 MUAC volunteers who gave up they time to help set up, run the BBQ and pack up.

MUAC will be back in action on Saturday 10th February for the AV Shield Final.
