AV Shield Round 1
The track and field season kicked off on Saturday with Round 1 of AV Shield at five tracks across Victoria. MUAC athletes were mostly eastside at Tom Kelly Athletics Track in Doncaster.
A big shout out to Hamed, Tristan, Simarjeet-Singh , Tim, Phil and Pete who helped out all day on our volunteer duties. Our next volunteer duties are at Round 4’s Werribee competition.
Top performances came from Hamed Aljuma (200m, 22.81), Jack Hughes, (800m, 2:11.06), Nick Earl (3000m, 8:34) and Joe Ratterman (Pole Vault, 4.50m) in the men, with Simon Brain winning his first race as a MUAC athlete. Top women were Eleni Gilden (200m, 27.21), Eleni Gilden (800m, 2:20.82), Ciara Boyd-Squires Long (3000m, 10:45) and Kath Iannello (Pole Vault, 3.45m).
The MUAC Division One Women took a comprehensive victory with their 8298 points more than triple the total of the second placed team. It was a closer run thing for the MUAC Division One Men, scoring 6857 points and winning by just over 1000 points. Top point scorers for the day were Nick Earl in the 3000m and Kath Iannello in the Pole Vault.
MUAC will be in action next weekend at AV Shield Round 2 with Werribee being the home venue, and more competition at Frankston, Llanberis, Flora Hill and Landy Field, and on Sunday for the Victorian Marathon Championships as part of the Melbourne Marathon.
