Australian University Distance Running Championships

Mark de LucaThe University of Melbourne has won the Australian University Distance Running Championship for the second year in a row, beating arch rivals Monash by 103 points.  The Championship was held as part of the Melbourne Marathon events and the top four competitors from each university counted towards the overall points score.  Two Melbourne University athletes won individual championships, Sophie Barker (MUAC) and Mark de Luca (St Kevins), both in the 10km race.  Points scorers in the Marathon included MUAC athletes Matt Irons and Tom Barnes and MUAC alumna Oja Prelovsek.  David Ulbrick just missed out on a medal to come 4th in the 10km while the University of Melbourne had three of the top four places in the Womens’ 10km.
