Macrae, Iannello and Barker fly in Adelaide

Adelaide Track Classic

13086_10151444477589301_121317567_nOn the weekend of 16th february, Catherine MacRae, Katherine Iannello & Sophie Barker travelled to Adelaide to compete in the Adelaide Track Classic, which is part of the Australian domestic Grand Prix series. Following a very hot 37 degree day at Adelaide’s Santos Stadium, the pole vault competition brought together competitors from three different states. It included Alana Boyd, the London Olympic finalist and Commonwealth Games champion, who was opening her Australian domestic campaign. Also representing Queensland was Charmaine Lucock, a past National champion. Jamie Scroop represented South Australia, which left Kat & Cat representing the Vics!
Kat Iannello unfortunately no-heighted, which is something that also happens to the best pole vaulters, but is always hard to take. Look out for some great heights from her in the remaining season.
Catherine MacRae continued on in the competition, managing to pick up 3rd place with a solid 3.70m jump, just 10cm behind her seasons best of 3.80 from the Rare Air competition on the previous Thursday. Charmaine Lucock came 2nd with a 4.10 clearance, and Alana Boyd finished in 1st with a 4.20m clearance.
Also competing in Adelaide was Melbourne Universities Sophie Barker. Hot off just being selected to represent Australia in the IAAF World Cross Country Championships. Sophie ran second to Olympic marathoner Jess Trengrove (16:22.96) in the 5000m with a time of 16:40.31.
