University athletes clocked the fastest times in the MUAC 5000m at the Rawlinson with runners rewarded for doing running solo.  Andy Buchanan (Bendigo University) was part of an early pack of four with Melbourne University’s Nick Earl and Mark Kirwan, and Harry Smithers. Buchanan made a long surge for home with a kilometre to go and went on to record an impressive win in 14:32.4, with Earl second and Smithers third. Sophie Barker spent long stretches of her race solo and chasing down MUAC President Hamish Beaumont, going on to claim a solid 16:31.4 time. 79 athletes took to the Rawlinson on Tuesday 24th February in four races with some impressive running in many races.  Nearly 20 MUAC athletes made the most of the chance to race on their home track, with Max Ueda’s 15:44 PB a highlight.

40 pole vaulters over two pits took to the skies in good conditions in the lead up to the Victorian Open Championships. Phillipa Hajdasz (Ruyton) cleared 3.95m in the Pole Vault to record a World Youth Championships Qualifier. France’s Flavien Basson (Box Hill) won the men’s competition with 5.30m ahead of club mate Blake Lucas.

A big thanks to the officials, lap counters and volunteers who helped out to make the event possible.
