Kate Scarlett

Name: Kate Scarlett

Runs/week: 7

Kilometrage: ~75km

This week I met Kate Scarlett, our Winter Cross-Country Women’s captain at a nice warm pub inside and away from Melbourne’s wet and dreary winter. In a most candid interview Kate takes over the interview and reveals to us some of the things that you will definitely not know about her

Kate it’s a rainy day out there so lucky we are sitting here next to the warmth of the fire. Can you tell me your favourite/worst training sessions
It is a bit rainy isn’t it. Well my favourite (session) is probably 14×400’s. Partly cos (sic) it’s very measurable. Partly because it always happens on a Saturday morning, which means I get to have a coffee and a banana muffin at the Potter afterwards. Least favourite is anything with a hill in it.

What’s something that not people know about you?
I can actually act. And make a lot of noise, when I want to.

Aha… Is that all?
Well there are lots of things about me that people don’t know like my favourite love song is Tiny Dancer by Elton John. Don’t tell anyone. Please! (Kate gives a raucous laugh in the quiet pub). You know when I was young, I though the song went  “Hold me close now Tony Danza” because I used to love “Who’s the boss”.

How fitting that it’s raining out there, as my next question is would you rather sing in the rain or dance in the streets?
Sing in the rain. I could get out there and do it now if you like. My favourite love song is Tiny Dancer by Elton John. Don’t tell anyone. Please! (Kate gives a raucous laugh in the quiet pub). You know when I was young, I though the song went  “Hold me close now Tony Danza” because I used to love “Who’s the boss”. (Kate gets off her chair and gives a quick rendition)

What’s your favourite drink?
Red wine. By a fire,. In winter. At a ski field. In Aspen. I guess almost like this fire here during this wintry day.

Wow so definitive Kate. How about the last book you read?
Laughter in the dark, by Nabakov. Hey do you want a tic-tac? (flips out a box of tic-tacs)

Sure thanks. Can I have more than one?
I love tic-tacs. Did you know that tic-tacs are small because they can only fit 1.5 calories in each.

Lastly what would you do if you just inherited a pizza shop?
Sell it and spend the proceeds on a holiday.

Great idea! Although I’d probably eat the stock before selling it. Kate thanks for meeting with me today, and I hope to see hear you singing “Tiny Dancer” in the rain the next time we get rained on during a session.
